The farm-raised Black Walnuts that we provide are from our managed orchard in eastern Missouri, and are collected by hand. No pesticides or fungicides are applied to our trees. We have over 2,500 trees!

Black Walnuts have a thick outer hull that is removed during processing.

We harvest only nuts whose outer hull is still mostly green/yellow, and the hulls are removed promptly, to yield the highest quality nuts.

Freshly harvested nuts, ready to be processed.

Black Walnuts after the hulls have been removed – before and after washing. Many suppliers simply remove the husks and skip the important step of washing. Washing not only greatly improves the handling quality of the nuts in the shell that you receive, we remove and discard any “floaters” during the washing process, to minimize the chance of getting any empty or underdeveloped nuts.

Black Walnuts after washing, drying and curing. Nuts are then sorted by size. In 2021, we processed over 3,000 lbs. of nuts!

Our Black Walnut orchard is located in eastern Missouri. On the map above, the shaded area shows the range where Black Walnut tress are native. Our varieties of trees were nursery selected for premium quality.

These are the type of substandard nuts that some suppliers harvest or accept from wild nut gatherers. We DO NOT collect or keep nuts if the outer hull has turned all brown and nasty – brown outer hulls are rotting/decaying and can give the nut meat a bitter or soapy flavor, so we always reject those (and you should, too).

These are the premium quality nuts that we provide. Ready to be cracked and enjoyed!
